KNIGHTS GET OFFICIAL DAY NAMED AFTER THEM

The City Proclaims Pittsburgh Knights Esports Day.

PITTSBURGH, PA, March, 13, 2018 – Hear ye, hear ye! The city of Pittsburgh has officially proclaimed March 13th “Pittsburgh Knights Esports Day.” The proclamation comes following the launch and sensational growth of the Pittsburgh area’s first esports team — the Knights. Since their launch on December 1st, the Knights have quickly grown their team and created a buzz within the esports community.

The Knights set out to be an organization that not only makes an impact on the esports community, but on the local community. Co-founder Rob "Leonyx" Lee explains, “We didn’t just set out to build a team, we wanted to build a legacy.” That legacy starts in the city of Pittsburgh. The Knights, while building professional teams to advance into competitive leagues, will work with local nonprofits to create afterschool programs and engage in community outreach. The city of Pittsburgh has been supportive of the Knights and will continue to work with them in their efforts to bring Pittsburgh to the global stage of esports.

“Pittsburgh is a special place. We are blessed with a community that supports each other and works together, and the city’s support through the proclamation demonstrates that. The city council, the county, and the mayor’s office set a great example every day through their collaborative efforts to support technology and innovation. This is why companies like Google, Amazon, and Geekwire are drawn to Pittsburgh. Now, with their support of esports and the Knights, we will be working hard to support and highlight the gaming, and the tech community locally”.

- James O'Connor, President

The proclamation outlines the booming growth of esports, the city’s relationship with the Knights, the effect of the Knights on the local Hazelwood community and all of Pittsburgh, and commends the Knights for their vision and innovation. Within the proclamation, it states “Pittsburgh esports is poised to create an impact for the City of Pittsburgh through tourism, economic impact and awareness in the technology workforce and is creating a strong relationship with the City.” This economic impact is highlighted by the ability for the Knights to eventually host their own esports events in the city and bring a new level of tourism to the area.
